IB Diploma Programme

Grennaskolan was one of the first schools in the country to offer the IB Diploma programme.The International Baccalaureate Diploma programme is a two-year pre-university course, designed to facilitate the mobility of students and to promote international understanding. In Sweden the actual IB Diploma programme is preceded by a preparatory year, so that the full Diploma programme comprises three years of study. English is the language of instruction.
During the preparatory year all students are required to study the same subjects. In the second term of this year, students are to choose the subjects and subject levels they wish to take in the IB Diploma examinations.

Pre-DP, i.e. the preparatory year, provides  an introduction to IB studies and also includes all the basic subjects in the national programmes offered at Grennaskolan. During DP1 and DP2 students choose six subjects, one from each of the groups listed below.

Group I    
Language A1; English or Swedish   
OR Self taught Language A1; German, French, Russian or other (at SL only)

Group II  
Language B; English, Swedish, French, German or Spanish

Group III
Individuals and Society; Psychology, Geography, History or Economics (Economics at SL only)

Group IV  
Experimental Sciences; Biology, Chemistry or Physics

Group V   
Mathematics; Maths or Mathematical Studies (at SL only)

Group VI  
“Sixth subject"; An additional subject from groups II, III or IV

The various subjects will be offered provided a sufficient number of  students apply.

In addition to the six subjects all Diploma candidates must take a course in Theory of  Knowledge , submit an Extended Essay in one of the six subjects and take part in the CAS programme (Creativity, Action and Service).

Assessment and Examination
At both Higher and Subsidiary/Standard level each subject is graded on a scale of 1 to 7. The award of the Diploma requires a minimum total of 24 points. It is possible to achieve a maximum of 45 points.

And then? If you manage to get good results you will be able to study at hundreds of universities all over the world. Many of our Diploma students choose to study in Britain, Australia, Germany and France.

Requirements for IB-programme applicants:
Pre-DP: Nine years of school corresponding to  the  grades of Swedish Comprehensive School)
Good written and spoken English
Passing test results in Mathematics and English.
DP1: Completion of the Pre-DP year (international students may enter without having completed the Pre-DP year)
DP2: New students admitted only after successful  conclusion of DP1 studies at another school.
